Shemanne Davis

Founder and Executive Director

If a door is shut, attempts should be made to open it; if it is ajar, it should be pushed until it is wide open. In neither case should the door be blown up at the expense of those inside- Mwalimu Nyerere

Shemanne is passionate about people, teams, and the potential for both to create change.

I am eager to work with you, your team, and stakeholders to deeply understand your context and to develop, refine, or execute your bold vision.

Shemanne Davis has worked in the education sector for 15 years as a teacher, school administrator,  teacher educator, education strategist, and currently chief learning officer at Instill Education. She is driven to develop inclusive and culturally affirming learning experiences for leaders and young people.

She is also an education consultant for Educate!, where she supports the organisation in developing its strategy to act as a service provider for continuous professional development with the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports. She has also supported its pathway to develop out-of-school youth and students affected by school closures during the pandemic to access opportunities to entrepreneurship and work placement.

In Nairobi, she consults with Moringa School as an education systems strategist to develop the learning management systems, student information systems, and product cycles to support the next generation of data scientists and software developers with the necessary technical and soft skills for success at work and entrepreneurship.

She has also developed principal managers and education specialists in Uganda in partnership with  Opportunity International EduFinance and Chalkboard Education. Through the partnership, she trained school leaders in practical and adult-appropriate methods in instructional leadership and pedagogical content knowledge. This partnership allowed her to investigate ways to improve teacher and leader professional development in low-cost private schools since her prior experience was in the public sector.

Before moving to East Africa, Shemanne was the Senior Dean of Student Affairs at Relay Graduate School of Education (and previously founding dean of Relay Philadelphia & Camden) where she was responsible for developing outstanding teachers and school leaders through meaningful, positive, and rigorous development experiences. She has also supported large-scale curriculum reform through the adoption of Common Core Standards as a policy analyst with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education

Shemanne holds a Juris Doctor in Law with a focus on Education Law (The University of Georgia School of Law Cum Laude) and Master of Arts in Teaching (Emory University). With years of experience in designing effective and scalable frameworks for school leaders, teachers, and students, Shemanne focuses on supporting inclusive and affirming leaders who stand up for children and young people so that can lead meaningful and choice-filled lives.
